RudeBoy

Hi - I have an old (76) Evinrude 115hp that goes like the clappers - only problem is that there does not seem to be any battery charging going on. 10A current clamp does not pick up any significant current at idle or WOT. Checked the stator and seems fine 1K ohms - rectifier ok as well. There is an unidentified part however - three wires going into what can only be described as two balls that are epoxy coated. Anyone know what’s in these - or can give me a clue about what could be the charging problem.

Cheers

Hello that part is the rectifier and is most commonly the charging problem changes ac to dc and can be checked with ohm meter.
