1989 140 hp Evinrude starts easy and runs fine at idle and up to about 2400 rpm's. Between 2400 and 3200 rpm's the engine seems to choke out and then stall. For example, if you accelerate to 3000 rpm's and try to run at that speed, the rpm's will over the course of 30 seconds or so slowly drop down and then the engine will stall. The engine will then restart easily. No problem when the rpm's are over 3200. What is causing this and how do I fix it? Bill Mayer

Hello If engine is running lean you can try pushing in on choke while accelerating to see if extra fuel helps increase rpm and keep engine running.
