I have a 1996 E60TLEUA that has run terrific, until last Sat, when the covers of my battery blew off.  I looked at my depth finder voltage, and the reading was over 27 volts (12 volt system).  I prefer to do my own wrenching.  Can you tell me what to check or replace to solve this.  Appears the battery was boiled dry before it popped its lid.  I am thinking voltage regulator or related parts.

Hello sounds like bad regulator and was probably running over 16 volts for long time. start with new battery and retest for short run.
