I have a 1995 150 hp Johnson(V6). Every so often when I go to start the engine all I get is a high pitched sound from the starter and the engine won't start. This happens maybe once every 30 starts. Is this a sign something is wearing out, if so what's the next step. I don't want to get stuck out on the water. Thanks in advance.

Hello sounds like starter gear or bushing is worn or may need lube. the rubber bushing in starter gear will need to be checked and moly lube applied to starter shaft splines
